ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR:

The bulk of our fundraising efforts have been used to fund the continued work of Dr Nicki Panoskaltsis. We fund 2 of her researchers on an annual basis and contribute towards consumables and equipment for the laboratory. This has resulted in the publication various papers – link to the research section.

We have also funded the following at the hospital where Richard was treated:

Creation of a visitors room – this room enables carers to have a quiet room to rest and reflect away from the intensity of looking after their loved one in their room. It has a sofa bed so that they can sleep, a TV, and washing facilities. We ended up sleeping on the floor in Richard’s room and would have appreciated this type of facility.

Creation of an assessment room – "The Richard Thomas Day Care Unit" – this enables out – patients (in-between treatments) to come into the hospital for bloods and transfusions and be treated in a comfortable environment. This is run by a nurse who treated Rich when he was in Northwick Park

Gardener – we fund the monthly visit of a gardener to the immediate surrounding area of the unit to ensure that the gardens visible to the patients are well kept.

What else is needed

The following list has been received from Dr Nicki Panoskaltsis (Honorary Consultant) and Julie Lucas (Manager Haematology Department). They are happy to provide further detail on each item as required, the list is split into one for the unit (for benefit of patients) and for the laboratory at Imperial College, London (for research).

If any fundraiser would like to donate specifically towards one of the above, or has ideas of your own then please let us know - we would be extremely grateful for your communication.
